Bergamont Area Plan, Santa Monica
Located in Santa Monica, The Bergamot Area Plan was adopted in 2013. It was a focused planning effort intended to give voice to community preferences for land uses, circulation networks, infrastructure, parking strategies, open space, the arts and design of buildings in the mixed-use, transit-oriented Bergamot area. The Plan was initiated to help transition 142.5 acres of former industrial land into a walkable, sustainable, and innovative complete neighborhood.
The major focus of our work was the preservation and enhancement of the Bergamont Station Arts Center, which is at the heart of the Area Plan and directly connected to the new LRT Expo Line station stop at Bergamont. In addition we helped look at ways to infuse the arts throughout the Transit Village and the Bergamont Arts District. The Plan was seven years in the making.
